<워터/미스트/파이어/오프>는 불에 대한 나른한 이야기조각들의 모음이다. 불이 나기를 기다리는 시뮬레이션 영상위에는 사건의 목격자와 그것을 해석하는 사람의 대화가 이어진다. 제작과정에서 웹상의 해몽카페에 올라온 글들과 화재 시뮬레이션 영상, 방화심리에 대한 논문 등을 참조하고 사용하였다.

WATER/MIST/FIRE/OFF is a panoply of rather drowsy story pieces about fire. In this simulation video which waits for a fire to break out, conversation continues between the witness of an accident and the analyst interpreting it. In the production process, posts uploaded on an online dream-reading community, fire simulation video clips and a thesis regarding the psychology of arson were referred to and used.

임영주는 영상, 회화, 설치, 출판 등 다양한 방식으로 미신과 같은 초현실적 혹은 인간의 믿음과 결탁된 종교적 경험을 언어,미디어, 자연 과학의 여러 징후들과 연결시킨 작업을 해왔다. 종교와 미신과 같은 정신적인 영역을 역설적이게도 과학적 사고 방식과 대비 시킴으로써 작가는 이 둘 간의 차이보다는 유사성에 주목한다. 따라서 그의 작업에는 초자연적 요소와 이를 자의적으로해석, 전유, 차용, 은유하는 (유사) 과학적 이미지 혹은 방법론이 동시에 등장한다.

Youngzoo IM primarily works with video, along with painting, installation, and publishing to examine absurd beliefs and their underlying structures. IM’s focus lies on the similarities, rather than differences, of scientific thinking with superstitions and religions that cannot be compatible by logic of the modern world. She interprets, borrows, and appropriates supernatural elements to create (quasi-) scientific images in her own way.
