Result of residency with the Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen – Conditional Cinema Program (2018-2022). Ficciones is a spell that conjures representations as if imagined from the perspective of the plant world, that which invents prior to consciousness, as a thinking before thinking (M. Marder). Ceramic sculptures were gardened for a year letting plant life grow on them as their skin. Four super-8 cameras were made into a mobile, thereby also filming the process and its shared motion. To embrace the filmed material as a fictional construction, it was optically printed and altered; to accompany the notion of the sculptures as possible chests, containers of heart, vocal sounds were recorded with Camila de Laborde and weaved into the film.

도자기 조각품으로 일 년 동안 정원을 가꾸어 식물의 생명이 도자기의 피부처럼 자라게 했다. 네 대의 슈퍼 8 카메라가 이동용으로 제작됨으로써 진행 과정과 공유되는 움직임을 함께 촬영했다. 촬영 된 자료를 허구의 구성으로 받아들이도록 광학적인 프린팅과 변형이 있었다. 가능한 상자, 마음의 용기, 보컬 사운드로서의 조각적 개념을 동반하기 위해 Camila de Laborde가 녹음하여 영화에 엮어 넣었다.

• Bio

Manuela de Laborde is both a visual artist and filmmaker. She received her MFA at the California Institute of the Arts and BA at Edinburgh College of Art. Laborde’s practice, by abstracting concepts from their concrete properties, looks to create [virtual] spaces and [regenerate] the image. Inspired by simplicity of expression, economy of detail, location of exhibition, her practice is a meditation on physical presence. To the eye, her work carries aesthetic claims and pleasure; yet in its presentation is performative and in its purpose, conceptual. Her first film, As Without So Within, screened in many venues worldwide, including the Wavelengths program of the Toronto International Film Festival, and won the Best International Short Award at WNDX Film Festival and the Grand Prix at 25fps Festival in Zagreb.
