‹공화국 찬가›는 눈 속에 떠다니는 속눈썹을 보여주며, 우리 몸의 작은 일부인 사물 하나가 얼마나 공격적이고 두려운 것일 수 있는가를 드러낸다. 속눈썹은 우리의 눈을 외부의 물질로부터 보호하기 위한 것이다. 그러나 이것이 눈 속에 들어가면 이 역시 외부의 물질이 된다. 이 영화는 다양한 해석을 이끌어낼 수 있으며, 비록 영화의 제목이나 배경음악으로 낮게 깔리는 대한민국의 국가가 작가의 국적을 상징하고 있음에도 불구하고 작가는 관객들이 비디오를 통해 보고 듣는 것으로부터 자신만의 의미를 만들어낼 수 있기를 바란다.

The hymn of a republic shows an eyelash drifting on an eye, represents how offensive and fearful an object, which is even a tiny part of your body, can be. Eyelashes are designed to protect your eyes from alien-substances. But they become alien- substances when they are on your eyes. This can provoke various interpretations an she wants audiences to take their own meaning from what they see and hear on her video although the title and the sound track playing backward pitched down the national anthem of South Korea represent her nationality.

Bio

안정윤은 개인의 재난과 우울을 다룬다. 익명의 삶과 죽음에 대한 공포를 사람들이 어떻게 느끼고 표현하는지 관찰하고 자신의 문법으로 재구성하는 영상 작업을 하고 있다. 네덜란드 Academie Minerva에서 미디어아트 전공하였다. ‹공화국찬가 The hymn of a republic›(2009)로 제39회 로테르담국제영화제 상영하고, 제10회 서울국제뉴미디어페스티벌 신진작가상을 수상했다. ‹구경꾼 Onlooker›(2016)은 제13회 서울국제실험영화제에서 국내경쟁부문 대상 수상, 한국영상자료원 2016년 우수독립영화로 선정되었다.

Jeongyoon AHN deals with personal disasters and depressions. She produces video works by observing how people feel and express their fears of anonymous life and death and reconstructing them into her language. The Hymn of a Republic (2009) was screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and won the Seoul International New Media Festival’s Rising Artist Award in 2010. Onlooker (2016) won the Korean EXiS Award at the Experimental Film & Video Festival in Seoul and was selected as the best independent film collection project by the Korean Film Archive in 2016.
