Description

Mori investigates the confluence of ecologies with place-based affectivities in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. The title of the three chapters,“守(to protect)”、“森(forest)”、“杜(spirit)” are different in shapes and meaning, yet all pronounced as “Mori in Japanese.” Karst cave, groundwater, the soils, villager, burning mountain ritual, scientist, Buyō dancer, majestic oak and forest, the work questions the ways of contemplating nature through rituals and folklores, and how landscapes have been historically constructed. Conceptualizing Dan Graham’s installation “Two-way Mirror Triangular Pavilion with Shoji Screen” as diffractive model of the work, Mori sees landscape as process and inner mechanism, which is defined by our detached vision and interpreted by our bodymind. It is a panorama which continuously changes as we move along any route.

<모리>는 일본 야마구치 현에서 생태와 장소 기반의 정동의 융합을 조사한다. 세 장의 제목인 “守(지키다)”, “森(숲)”, “杜(정신)”은 모양과 의미가 다르지만 모두 일본어로 “모리”로 발음된다. 카르스트 동굴, 지하수, 토양, 마을 주민, 불타는 산의 의식, 과학자, 부요 무용수, 장엄한 참나무와 숲- 이 작품은 의식과 민속을 통해 자연을 관조하는 방법과 풍경이 역사적으로 어떻게 구성되었는지 질문한다. 댄 그레이엄의 설치작품 "쇼지 스크린이 있는 양방향 미러 삼각형 파빌리온"을 작업의 회절 모델로 개념화한 모리는 풍경을 우리의 분리된 비전에 의해 정의되고 우리의 몸의 마음에 의해 해석되는 과정과 내부 메커니즘으로 봅니다. 이것은 우리가 어떤 경로를 따라 이동할 때마다 지속적으로 변화하는 파노라마입니다.

Bio

Su Yu Hsin(b.1989) is an artist and filmmaker based in Berlin. She approaches ecology from the point of view of its close relationship with technology. Her artistic practice is strongly research-oriented and involves fieldwork where she investigates the political ecologies of water. Her work reflects on technology and the critical infrastructure in which the human and non-human converge. Her analytical and hydropoetic storytelling focuses on map-making, operational photography, and the technical production of geographical knowledge. Her video installations are exhibited worldwide in museums and International Art Biennials: the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, Taipei Biennial 2020, ZKM Karlsruhe, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art and Haus der Kulturen der Welt, among others. Her films have been shown at Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg and Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul. Recently she has her solo exhibition Wet Mechanics of Seeing at Kunsthalle Winterthur.

수유 신(b.1989)은 베를린을 기반으로 활동하는 작가이자 영화감독이다. 그녀는 생태학과 기술의 밀접한 관계의 관점에서 생태학에 접근한다. 그녀의 예술 활동은 매우 연구 지향적이며 물의 정치적 생태학을 조사하는 현장 작업을 포함한다. 그녀의 작업은 인간과 비인간이 융합하는 기술 및 중요한 인프라에 대해 반영한다. 그녀의 분석적이고 수문학적 스토리텔링은 지도 제작, 가동적 사진, 지리적 지식의 기술적 생산에 중점을 둔다. 그녀의 비디오 설치 작품은 퐁피두 메츠 센터, 부산현대미술관, 타이베이 비엔날레 2020, ZKM 칼스루에, UCCA 현대미술센터, 세계 문화의 집 등 전 세계 박물관과 국제 미술 비엔날레에서 전시되고 있다. 그녀의 영화는 함부르크 커즈영화제와 서울에서 열린 실험 영화 및 비디오 페스티벌에서 상영되었다. 최근 그녀는 쿤스트할레 윈터투어에서 개인전 Wet Mechanics of Seeing을 열었다.
