A little girl dances, a dusty road, small shops, people coming and going. An elderly woman telling about her life with four husbands.Cairo: one of the oldest cities of the world. History and stories beginning at Memphis, the ancient capital of the Pharaohs, through Heliopolis, a town of priests, then through the Babylonian fortress of the Romans, Fustat, the first city of the Arab conquerers, and through the mosque Ibn Tulun, ending with a description of her wedding night by a woman who is now old and looking back.Cairo 1990: the fields, shown in a very long travelling shot at the end of the film, are all cultivated today. Some things have survived, though, such as some archaic manners and customs – leftovers, like the ruins and monuments of ancient times that you can find here and there in the middle of the modern town.

카이로 : 세계에서 가장 오래된 도시 중 하나. 역사와 이야기는 파라오의 고대 수도인 멤피스에서 시작하여, 사제들의 도시인 헬리오폴리스를 거치고 그후 로마인들의 바빌로니아 요새를 거쳐, 아랍 정복자들의 첫 번째 도시인 푸스타트(Fustat)와 이븐 툴룬 (Ibn Tulun) 모스크를 지나 이제는 늙어 뒤를 돌아보는 한 여성의 결혼식날 밤에 대한 묘사에서 끝난다.
