밧줄 / 아일랜드 전통무용 / 얼굴에 끼얹은 물

세 섹션 모두 아일랜드를 상징하는 기표와 참조로써 문화적 은유이자 매개체이다.

밧줄 - 크레오소테먹인 사이잘 끈 뭉치를 머리에 동여매다.

밧줄 자체는 (아일랜드 토착 농업 고고학에서) 하나의 토착 유물이다.

수확과 손실은 토착민에 관한다. 

질식, 억누름, 갇힘.

춤 – 이 아일랜드 민속무용 우승자는 아일랜드 문화의 중심점 또는 기둥이다.

(이 춤을 본 이후에  우리는 조금 더 주류이나 전통 민속 무용의 같은 문화적 참조를 사용한 리버댄스(아일랜드 정통 탭댄스)를 접하였다.)

자유롭게 추는 문화적인 기반을 둔 아일랜드 민속춤은 동시에 제한되고 억제되어있다.

물 - 얼굴에 끼얹은 물은 도유식이며, 또한 익사시키기 위함이다.

‘물을 건너라’는 아일랜드 섬 밖 세계를 묘사하는 아일랜드식의 표현이다.

The Rope/Traditional Irish Dancing/Water in Face

All three sections act as cultural carriers and metaphors of particular

Irish signifiers and references.

ROPE- Wrapping the head in a large found ball of creosote covered sisal twine.

The Rope itself is an indigenous found artifact (native Irish farming archaeology)

About harvest and loss, it is native.

Suffocation, smothering, entrapped.

DANCE- This champion Irish Dancer is the cultural center point or fulcrum.

(Later from seeing this work perhaps we had Riverdance which is more mainstream but using same core cultural references of traditional folk dance.)

Dance as freedom and grounded literally and culturally, yet at the same time restricted and repressed.

WATER - Water in the face is an anointment and a drowning both.

Across the water, a term Ireland uses to describe the world outside its Island shores.
