이 작품은 예술공간 돈키호테가 2011년부터 기획해온 동시대 비음악(Contemporary non-Music) 프로젝트 <노이즈가든 프로젝트>가 비디오 영상으로 확장된 작품이다. 전라남도 순천만의 화포갯벌을 배경으로 시각예술가 박병래와 노이즈 아티스트 최준용이 만나 실행했던 4시간의 퍼포먼스를 기록한 이 영상은 단지 사건의 기록을 위한 다큐멘터리 영상이라기 보다, 무방비 상태의 두 아티스트에게 펼쳐지는 대자연의 변화를 각자의 시각과 표현으로 기록한 지극히 사적인 풍경의 기록이다.
Hwapo was originally commissioned by Artspace Don Quixote as part of the “Contemporary non-Music” project in 2011 and extended into a video work of its own. The video, part of a 4-hour-performance shot at Hawpo Tideland, Suncheon, Jellanamdo Province, is not only a documentation of the event but also a record of the extremely private landscape of ever-changing mother nature confronted by the two helpless artists: visual artist Byong-lae Park and noise musician Joonyong Choi, and expressed through visual and aural media.
