Having received a good response to Impressions of the Sunset, he continued to develop his filmmaking expressed from an everyday perspective, and carried his camera everywhere to shoot whatever was around him. Composing the work in four parts, he reflects on his mental states in a narration that resembles audio commentary. As he films the filmmaker loses motivation to film, and realizing that he is deadlocked in his own life decides to quit his job. The act of filming changes both the filmmaker’s understanding and the practical aspects of his life.

석양의 감상에 대한 좋은 반응을 얻은 그는 일상적인 관점에서 표현된 영화제작을 계속 발전시켰고, 주변에 있는 모든 것을 촬영하기 위해 카메라를 모든 곳에 가지고 다녔습니다. 작품을 4부로 구성한 그는 오디오 해설과 비슷한 내레이션을 통해 자신의 정신 상태를 성찰합니다. 작가는 영화 촬영의 의욕을 잃은 후, 자신의 삶이 교착 상태에 빠졌다는 것을 깨닫고 직장을 그만두기로 결정합니다. 촬영하는 행위는 작가의 이해와 삶의 실제적인 측면을 모두 바꿉니다.

Program note

SUZUKI Shirouyasu, who is also a poet, has produced many works in which he incisively addresses the universal question of the nature of visual expression from a completely personal perspective as a filmmaker who shoots his own surroundings. A leading creator of personal films, he has had a major influence on the field of moving images in Japan.

This program traces the changes in SUZUKI Shirouyasu’s thought from Impressions of the Sunset, when he first gained confidence in his own filmmaking, through his masterpiece, 15 Days, a diary film in which the subject shifted to himself, and to his posthumous work, The Amazing Change of Flowers in My Little Garden.

시인이기도 한 스즈키 시로야스는 자신의 주변을 촬영하는 영화 감독으로서 시각적 표현의 본질에 대한 보편적인 질문을 완전히 개인적인 관점에서 독창적으로 다루는 많은 작품을 제작해왔습니다.

일기영화의 대표적인창작자인 그는 일본의 무빙이미지 분야에 큰 영향을 미쳤습니다.

이 프로그램은 스즈키 시로야스가 자신의 영화 제작에 처음 자신감을 얻었던 ‘석양의 감상’부터, 자신으로 주제가 옮겨간 일기 영화 ‘15일’, 유작 ‘내 작은 정원 속 놀라운 꽃의 변화’까지 사색의 변화를 따라갑니다.

SUZUKI Shirouyasu (鈴木 志郎康)

A poet and filmmaker born in 1935 in Tokyo, Japan, passed away in September 2022.

He started to write poems around 1952 and to make his personal films around 1966.

His major film works include Impressions of the Sunset and 15 Days. He also made efforts to train filmmakers at Image Forum Institute of Moving Image and Tama Art University. 

As a poet, he received the Mr. H. Prize in 1968 and the Sakutaro Hagiwara Prize in 2008.

감독 소개

1935년 일본 도쿄에서 태어난 시인이자 영화 제작자가 2022년 9월 세상을 떠났습니다.

그는 1952년경 시를 쓰기 시작했고 1966년경 개인 영화를 만들기 시작했습니다.

그의 주요 영화 작품으로는 ‘석양의 감상’과 ‘15일’이 있습니다.

그는 또한 무빙이미지의 이미지 포럼 연구소와 타마 예술대학에서 영화 제작자들을 양성하기 위해 노력했습니다.

시인으로서, 그는 1968년에 Mr. H. Prize를 받았고 2008년에 사쿠타로 하기와라상을 받았습니다.
