Description

This piece explores the unique dynamics and communication that arise from the inability to fully connect and understand each other. In our daily lives, we form various social circles through interactions with friends, acquaintances, colleagues, and family. With the prevalence of social media and online platforms, people can create even more diverse social circles and connect with individuals from all over the world. Through this artwork, the faint boundaries that emerge from individual communications and relationships are contemplated, with the hope of sparking thoughts about our future existence and how we interact with others. 

이 작품은 인간이 서로를 완전히 이해하거나 연결되지 못하는 데서 발생하는 독특한 역학과 소통을 탐구한다. 일상에서 우리는 친구, 지인, 동료, 가족과의 상호 작용을 통해 다양한 소셜 서클을 형성한다. 소셜 미디어와 온라인 플랫폼의 보급으로 사람들은 훨씬 더 다양한 소셜 서클을 만들고 전 세계의 개인들과 연결될 수 있다. 이 작품이 미래의 우리 존재, 타인과의 교류에 관한 생각을 불러일으키기를 희망하며, 개인 소통과 관계에서 비롯되는 희미한 경계를 재고한다.

Bio

Eri Saito is a Japanese artist living and working in Tokyo. Born 1991 in Fukushima. Focusing on video, she creates works themed on such invisible and uncertain dynamics as memory and cognition. Her recent exhibitions include Visitor Cue (Yamanaka Suplex annex building MINE, Osaka, 2023), how to make friends (Art Center Ongoing, Tokyo, 2023), and Until It Gets Dark (Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, 2021). Her video works have been shown at Prismatic Ground (Anthology Film Archives, New York, 2024), European Media Art Festival (Osnabrück, 2023), and Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions (Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, Tokyo, 2022), among other places. In 2024, she received the Second Prize at the e-flux Film Award.

사이토 에리는 도쿄에 살며 활동하는 일본인 예술가다. 1991년 후쿠시마에서 태어났다. 영상에 집중하면서, 기억과 인지 같은 보이지 않는, 그리고 불확실한 역학에 주제를 둔 작품을 만든다. 그녀의 최근 전시회로는 Visitor Cue (Yamanaka Suplex annex building MINE, 오사카, 2023), 친구를 만드는 방법 ((Art Center Ongoing, 도쿄, 2023), 어두워질 때까지 (도쿄 메트로폴리탄 미술관, 2021)가 있다. 그녀의 영상 작품들은 Prismatic Ground (Anthology Film Archives, 뉴욕, 2024), European Media Art Festival (Osnabrück, 2023), 그리고 Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions (도쿄 사진 미술관, 2022)에서 상영되었다. 2024년  e-flux Film Award에서 2위를 수상했다.
