Description

"Young Pines" grew out of three trips to Japan between May 2009 and November 2010. Invited to Japan for a series of film screenings, I began filming in Yokohama, Tokyo and Kanazawa. Even in the big cities, I experienced how strongly the Japanese feel connected to nature and how they tend to see no contradiction between culture and nature. I found this stimulating and in harmony with some of my own impulses. I wanted to return and film more in other seasons. In Spring 2010 I visited Kamakura, Kyoto and Nara, in November, I went Northeast and filmed in Matsushima, Tono, Miyako, in Atsumi, Yamadera and Nikko. All of my film images have been filmed before the disaster of the Tsunami and Fukushima, but the final editing was done in the following months.

"어린 소나무들"은 2009년 5월부터 2010년 11월까지 세 차례의 일본 여행을 토대로 제작되었다. 영화 상영을 위해 일본으로 초청을 받은 나는 요코하마, 도쿄, 카나자와에서 촬영을 시작했다. 큰 도시에서도 일본인들이 얼마나 자연과 연결되어 있는지를 강하게 느낄 수 있었고, 문화와 자연 사이에 모순이 보지 않는 경향이 있음을 경험했다. 이는 나 자신의 욕망과 조화를 이루는 자극적인 요소로 다가왔다. 나는 다른 계절에도 그곳에 돌아가 더 많은 촬영을 하고 싶었다. 2010년 봄에는 가마쿠라, 교토, 나라를 방문했고, 11월에는 동북쪽으로 이동하여 마쓰시마, 토노, 미야코, 아쓰미, 야마데라, 닛코에서 촬영을 했다. 모든 영상은 쓰나미와 후쿠시마 재해 이전에 촬영되었지만, 최종 편집은 그 후 몇 달 동안에 이루어졌다.

Ute Aurand has been a central figure of Berlin’s experimental film scene since the 1980s and is one the most significant filmmakers active in the diary and portrait tradition today. Born in 1957 in Frankfurt/Main, she studied filmmaking at the Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie (dffb) From 1979-1985, and from 1980, she has produced her own films. In making her 16mm portraits, she often films her subjects over many years, thereby stressing the inseparability between living and filming for the avant-garde filmmaker. Aurand’s work celebrates the here and now, the people she meets, the places she visits, the very fact of being alive. Her films have been shown at international film festivals and art museums i.a.: Tate Modern, London, Austrian Film Museum; Berlinale (Forum Expanded); TIFF Toronto (Wavelengths); Media City Film Festival; International Film Festival Rotterdam; Harvard Film Archive; Internationale Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen; CCCB Barcelona etc.

Ute Aurand has also been active as a curator who consistently introduces films by female directors. From 1990 to 1995, She created the series “Filmarbeiterinnen-Abend” at the Arsenal cinema, Berlin, featuring mostly experimental films made by women. In 1997, she founded the monthly “Filmsamstag” programs with other women filmmakers and curated the program until 2007. She is a founder of the Bolex Workshop at the Berlin Film School (dffb) in 2015.

또한 우테 오란드는 여성 감독의 영화를 꾸준히 소개하는 기획자로서도 왕성한 활동을 이어왔다. 1990년부터 베를린의 아스널 시네마에서 여성 감독들이 제작한 실험영화를 선보인 <영화노동자의 저녁: Filmarbeiterinnen-Abend> (1990-1996)와 <예를 들어, 당신은: Sie zum Beispiel> (1995-96) 등을 기획했고, 1997년 동료 여성 감독들과 함께 월간 상영 프로그램 <영화 토요일: FilmSamstag>을 시작했으며 2007년까지 진행했다. 2015년 그녀는 베를린 필름 학교의 볼렉스 워크숍을 창설했다.
