A photograph of a volcanic stone slice from the east coast of Taiwan, famous for its landscape-like patterns created by minerals and geological pressure; a snapshot of a “Capitoline Wolf” replica sculpture, a symbolic gift from an Italian ambassador to Chiang Kai-shek after he fled Mainland China for the island of Taiwan; Heart of a Mountain forms in the area between these objects whose stories are encoded as images. Technologies of translation form sentences that reach towards understanding, guiding a film that binds together human history and geological time in the obscure space that separates languages.

풍경으로 유명한 대만 동해안의 화산석 절개 사진과 같은 패턴은 광물과 지질학적 압력에 의해 생성된다; 장개석(또는 장제스, 1928~49년 중국국민당 정부의 주석*)이 중국 본토를 떠나 대만 섬으로 달아난 후 이탈리아 대사에게서 받은 상징적인 선물인 "카피톨린 울프(Capitoline Wolf )" 복제 조각품의 스냅사진. 산의 심장 이야기는 이미지로 인코딩(부호화) 된 대상들 사이 영역에서 형성된다. 번역의 기술은 언어가 분리된 모호한 공간에서, 인간의 역사와 지질학적 시간을 하나로 묶어내는 영화를 안내하며, 이해에 도달하는 문장을 형성한다.

• Bio

Parastoo Anoushahpour, Faraz Anoushahpour, and Ryan Ferko have worked in collaboration since 2013. Their shared practice explores the interplay of multiple subjectivities as a strategy to address the power inherent in narrative structures. Foregrounding the idea of place as a central focus, their work seeks both to decode their surroundings and to trouble the production of images through speculative narration and dialectical imagery. Shifting between both gallery and cinema contexts, recent projects have been presented internationally at the Viennale, Punto De Vista International Documentary Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and others.
