Description
다양한 도시들이 프리즘으로 만들어진 여러 색의 직조물로 녹아드는 일종의 여행기. 반복적으로 빛에서 어둠으로, 좁은 골목에서 고속도로를 가로지르며, 여러 곳을 여행하며 마주하는 낯선 주변환경은 멀리 그리고 공간을 찰나적으로 다가온다. 볼렉스를 들고 경련스럽게 움직이는 모습은 구경꾼들의 시선을 붙잡고, 내 목을 고통스럽게 한다. 프로젝터 사이의 확고한 안무는 대륙 사이를 휘젓고 다니며 몇 달간의 긴 여행의 시간을 단 몇 분으로 붕괴시킨다.(사이먼 리우)
A travelogue film of sorts in which various cities melt into the prismatic tapestry. A lack of familiarity with these surroundings breed a distant and fleeting view of space - repeatedly navigating from light to dark; alleyway to the highway. This spastic dance with the Bolex turns the heads of onlookers and leaves my neck sore. An unwavering choreography between projectors collapses months to minutes; swiping between continents. Bio
사이먼 리우는 홍콩과 영국에서 자랐고, 현재는 미국 브루클린에서 거주하고 있다. 그의 영화, 설치, 및 16mm 다중영사 퍼포먼스 작품은 세계 각지의 영화제와 기관에서 상영된 바 있다. 그는 현재 쿠퍼 유니온 예술 대학에서 가르치고 있으며, 아티스트 런 필름 랩인 네거티브 랜드 MPL의 멤버이기도 하다. 그는 2019년 제롬 힐 아티스트 기금 수상자이며 2018년 NYSCA/웨이브 팜 미디어 아트 기금 수상자이기도 하다. 현재 그는 자신의 첫 장편 작품의 포스트-프로덕션 작업을 하고 있다.
Simon Liu was raised between Hong Kong and Stoke-On-Trent, UK and now lives in Brooklyn, USA. Liu’s films, installations and 16mm multiple projection performances have been presented at film festivals and institutions internationally, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Toronto International Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, Edinburgh IFF, Hong Kong IFF, M+ Museum, and Dreamlands: Expanded with the Whitney Museum of American Art & Microscope Gallery and more. Liu is an Adjunct Faculty member at the Cooper Union School of Art and is a member of the artist-run film lab Negative land MPL. He is a 2019 Jerome Hill Artist Fellow and a recipient of the NYSCA / Wave Farm Media Arts Assistance Fund in 2018. Liu is currently in post-production on his first feature film, Staffordshire Hoard.
